Rue de Rivoli

   In 1801, Napoleon authorized the 
   first section of the new street, 
   named the Rue de Rivoli. The Rue 
   de Rivoli was the most 
   influential Parisian achievement 
   in large-scale domestic 
   architecture. Street width and 
   fa*ade height were the main 
   variables for creating the 
   perspective. The architects 
   chose a massive arcade, 
   incorporating a setback 
   entresol, and added three full
