Van Gogh
The Starry Night, 1889
The Starry Night was painted near the mental asylum of Saint-Remy, 13 months before Van Gogh's death at the age of 37. The painter's mental instability is well known. He had committed himself to several asylums in hopes of an cure. The Starry Night vibrates with burning yellow while planets move around in circles like cartwheels. The hills tremble, and the blue sky swirls.
