Apollonia was the port city of Cyrene from c. 620 BCE. A natural port was in use during this time, and beginning in the 4th century BCE, man-made port facilities were constructed. The port was destroyed by subsidence and a tsunami linked to a cluster of earthquakes which occurred in the Mediterranean region in 365 CE.
