This image is associated with the Great Altar of Zeus or otherwise known as the Pergamon Altar and is a frontal view of the N. wall Telephos frieze. It was originally placed within the perimeter walls of the Great Altar of Zeus. The panels show carpenters building a boat for Auge -- who will soon be cast out to sea. The Telephos frieze was originally placed within the perimeter walls of the Great Altar of Zeus. It tells the mythical narrative legend of Telephos -- the son of Herakles and founder of Pergamon. The dramatic story is conveyed through a successive series of marble panels along the interior walls of the central altar courtyard.
