11th-8th c BCE European Germanic Migration Metalwork
BRONZE AGE Anonymous
(c. 2000 BCE - c. 500 BCE)
11th-8th c BCE
Bronze Age Germanic jewelry is much more geometric than the Celtic pieces. The great circular belt buckle that you see here is most typical of Germanic Bronze Age jewelry. The decorative forms are admirably suited to the shape itself, for the decoration is made up of a series of concentric circles with repeated circles inside them.
