The knowledge of metal working caused transformations in many parts of the world. We know that a constant flow of trade took place between India and Mesopotamia during the 3rd millennium BCE, and it is thought that bronze making skills were introduced to China from the Near East. However, recent research suggests that bronze may have been discovered in what is now Vietnam during the 3rd millennium BCE, about the same period as it was discovered in the Near East. This bronze drum which was made either in Southern China or Vietnam is a good example of this early work.
