"Red House was the inspiration for ""Briarmains"" in Charlotte Bronte's novel Shirley. Red House was owned by the Taylor family and Bronte was friends with Mary Taylor. Although originally built in 1660 for William Taylor, the house today looks as it did c. 1830."
