From the Charleston (South Carolina) townhouse of Colonel John Stuart - Commissioner of Indian Affairs for the British government. The Chippendale-style mahogany furniture is from Boston and Philadelphia. Chinese mantelpiece porcelains and ivory chess set represent Chinoiserie. The portrait of Henry Lambert is by Gilbert Stuart (c. 1780-1).
