The Nestorians were a Christian sect established by Nestorius Patriarch of Constantinople from 428-431 who held that Christ had two loosely affiliated natures. It was declared heretical. Members of the sect moved to Persia in the 6th century and spread throughout Asia in the 7th century. The stele tells of the arrival of a Persian missionary in China in 635.
