15th c Italian Renaissance Painting
(Isola di Cartura, 1431 - 1506, Mantua)
The painting came from the church of Aigueperse in Auvergne where it was placed for the marriage in 1481 of Chiara Gonzaga, daughter of Federico, marquise of Manua, with Gilbert of Bourbon, comte de Montpensier. The many Roman fragments show Mantegna's love for antiquity.
