This life-sized head of a man was found in 2004 in the Golyama Kosmatka burial mont near Shipa. The mound is the largest in Thrace: 20 meters high by 90 meters in dameter. The rich burial goods fround in the tomb are on display in the Golyama Kosmatka museum. An inscription on a helmet gives the name of Seuthes in the possessive case, indicating that ths may have been the resting place of King Seuthes III, and that the head was in fact a portrait of the king. Seuthes ruled over the Odrysae during the last decades of the third century.
