Isabella of Bourbon was the second wife of Charles the Bold. The wooden models for the figures were attributed to Jan Borman III while the bronze casts were done by Renier van Thienen. The tomb was erected in the Abbey of St. Michael in Antwerp by Isabella's daughter Mary. The tomb was surrounded by twenty-four figures of mourning family members, symbolizing the Burgundian dynasty. Only ten of the original twenty-four survive.
