Lubeck. Schleswig-Holstein. Germany.
In 1930; Barlach was commissioned by the Director of the Lubeck Museums in Germany; to carve a group of 16 figures for the facade of the Katharinenkirche in Lubeck. Due to pressure from a group of right-wing radicals; Barlach was able to complete only three of these sculptures. The work was completed by Gerhard Marcks in the 1950s.
