The Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse, commissioned in 1913, stands at the end of the San Pedro Breakwater and is affectionately known as 'Angel's Gate.' At least twice in its history has it survived being destroyed: first by the 1933 Long Beach earthquake and, several years later, by a passing battleship. Photograph by Hubert A. McClain.
