Tape recorder technology culminated in the late 1960s with a machine capable of delivering 30-20000 Hz ±2 dB audio fidelity at 7.5' per second tape speed. Speed distortion was eliminated with a flywheel-stabilized capstan and non-rotating tape guides (see osfr0055). Separate motors were used for fast forward, rewind and dynamic damping of tape movement during powering operations alternately on the feed and take-up reels.
