We have already met the enthroned goddess from Çatal Huyuk who sits flanked by her two panthers as she gives birth to a bull. We have seen that she is both mother of the animals and the source of the crops. She was created about 6000 BCE and during the next three thousand years her cult spread over much of the Near Eastern and European worlds. During the remainder of the lesson we will examine her cult on the Island of Malta as well as in Crete and Mycenaen.
