I would like to end this lesson with a monument to love, the mausoleum built by Persian architects for the Shah Jahan, ruler of India, for his beloved wife, Mumtaz. The marble building itself seems almost translucent. The soaring grace of the delicate minarets and the onion dome seem to hover over an almost dematerialized building in the early morning mist. In this monument, one of the truly great buildings of the world, love and death have together created a memorial of grace and eternal beauty.
