This view gives some idea of the size of the gigantic temple. Notice the scale of the people in relation to the towers of the central shrine. We are standing inside the gateway of the outer wall, having just crossed a long causeway over the moat which was guarded by sacred nagas who symbolized the rainbow and marked the entrance to the heavenly realms. We will pass along the pathway past flanking buildings identified as libraries, and past lotus ponds, before we enter another gateway which leads of the galleries that surround the central shrine itself.
