The most complex vaults on a Perpendicular Gothic building are in the Chapel of Henry VII in Westminster Cathedral in London. These were built early in the 16th century, and here the fan vaults have been transformed into PENDANT VAULTS. The pendants hang from the ribs, but the structure is obscured by the rich stone appliqué that covers the entire ceiling. Here the complexity and richness of the early Celtic Animal Style interlace has returned, this time in a tour de force that makes stone seem as light and flexible as wood.
