Young won a competition to design the Custom House in 1837. Located in Boston's Financial District, the Doric-order structure was completed in 1847. The 496-foot (151-meter) tower was added by Peabody & Stearns in 1911-14, making the Custom House the city's tallest skyscraper until 1964. It was converted into a hotel in the late 1990s.
