Rosehill was based on the Grand Trianon in Versailles. It was built for Theresa Fair who was a wealthy debutant from Angel's Camp in the California Gold Rush. She married Herman Oelrichs in 1890 and they commissioned the house. Theresa died in 1926 and the house deteriorated. It was restored in 1944 and given to the Newport Preservation Society in 1972. The Great Gatsby was filmed at Rosehill.
