The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was organized to coordinate the sit-in movement as a protest against segregated public facilities. The newspaper shows the beginning of the movement when 4 black freshmen from North Carolina A & T College walked into the local Woolworth's and sat at the lunch counter waiting to be served.
