(Waldheim, Saxony, April 1877 - November 1947, Berlin)
With the diminishing political turmoil during the 1920s, Kolbe moved away from unnatural figures and proportions. His return to identifiable subjects found appreciation by a large audience throughout Europe and the U.S. His receipt of commissions grew and was reflected in the building of his stately studio in Berlin. This figure, along with his 'Young Woman' of 1926 and 'A Large Seated Woman' of 1929 are typical of this period; here he offers us a young woman in athletic movement as if a participant in a team sport.
