This seal is from the Sumerian city of Ur, which was the Bronze Age home of Abraham. The concept of the composition is Sumerian, but the execution is Akkadian. The Akkadians, a Semitic tribe from the north, conquered the Sumerians but continued much of their culture. The story pictured appears to be from the Epic of Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, who may actually have lived about 3000 BCE. Many consider this epic to be the oldest story ever recorded. In the epic is the eventual acceptance of impermanence and death by an egocentric man, after he went through many adventures and finally destroyed the 7 auras of the ìevil one.î That ìevil oneî may be understood as the ego. Also included is the story of a global flood. This epic may well have been the source of the Biblical story of the world flood. Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu are shown slaying animals. Gilgamesh killed lions then ate them and wore their skins."
