"This vessel is one of the most famous objects of the age. Not only is it carved in a beautiful way but the symbolism continues to resonate in modern times. The iconography shows a pair of Feathered Serpents opening a portal to reveal the divine presence of a Double-Serpent whose name is Ningishzida (Ningizzida). The iconic image of the Double-Serpent continued in the cultures of Egypt with Thoth and in Greece with Hermes, and is still seen regularlyin the modern world as a symbol of health and healing. It appears on TV almost every day in association with medical reports and ads. Many scholars have noted the emphasis given to the central vertical column and the number of spaces around which the serpents wrap. This could be symbolic of the kundalini chakra system. If so, this is further evidence for a possible Indo-Sumerian culture. Commissioned by IAD from Paul White, Australia, 2008"
