The chalet was intended as a retreat for Adolf Hitler and was commissioned by Martin Bormann as a 50th birthday present for Hitler. It is situated on he top of Kehlstein mountain at an elevation of 6,017 feet. The fireplace is made of red Italian marble that was a gift of Mussolini.
