Commissioned by Crown Prince (later King) Ludwig I of Bavaria. On the Konigsplatz opposite the Glyptothek. Originally the Kunstausstellungsgebaude (art exhibition building) intended for artistic events. Now houses the State Collection of Antiquities. The form is based on a Roman temple with a raised podium; front staircase; and Corinthian columns.
