19th c Brazilian Beaux-Arts Architecture
J.M. de MACEDO
The magnificent building was built during the short-lived but fabulous rubber boom of the late 19th century. Artists were brought from Europe to perform there. Many of the materials were also brought from Europe, but the outside is covered with 36,000 decorated ceramic tiles.
