Monastery of St. Ivan (John) of Rila. Bulgaria.
It is thought that the monastery was founded by the hermit St. Ivan (John) in the 10th or 11th century. The first extant buildings date from the 14th century. Others date from the 15th century after the Ottoman raids of the 14th and 15th centuries. It was destroyed by fire in 1833 and rebilt between 1834 and 1862.
