The original wax version of this sculpture was shown in the Impressionist exhibition of 1881 and it was the only sculpture Degas ever exhibited. Bronze casts of this work were made after his death. This one was cast between 1921 and 1931 by Adrien-Aurélien Hébrard in Paris.
