Story of Procris & Cephalus. Cephalus & Pan at the Temple of Diana.
16th c Italian Renaissance Painting
Washington D.C. National Gallery of Art.
The fresco cycle was commissioned by Gerolamo Rabia a Milanese nobleman. In the early 19th century the frescoes were removed from their original setting and mounted as panels. The story is derived from a play based on the story of Prince Cephalus and Princess Procris of Attica from Book VII of the Metamorphoses by Ovid.
