In 1816 Jacob Salomon Bartholdy (1779-1825) commissioned the Nazarene group of painters to decorate the sitting room of his apartment in the Palazzo Zuccari (Rome) with a cycle of the story of Joseph in Egypt. In 1887 the murals were removed and transported to Germany when the Zuccari family announced plans to renovate the Palazzo.
