Stelae A and H designed as a pair and face one another across the south end of the Great Plaza. Stele A is famous for its text proclaiming that 18 Rabbit's Kingdom of Copan ranked with three others - Tikal; Palenque and Calakmul - as one of the four greatest polities of the Maya world at the ending of 9.15.0.0.0 (A.D. 731). A halach uinic was also called ahau; a word that the sixteenth-century Maya defined as 'king, emperor, monarch, prince or great lord.'
